A new business nestled in Spencerport is bringing a healthy harmony to the greater community. Filling a previously vacant plaza corner with the scent of fresh fruit, Bloom and Blend offers vibrant smoothies, protein shakes, bowls and more. In just over two months, the business has drawn so much attention that its hours have been extended to meet the customer demand.
Owners of Bloom and Blend, Alyssa Connors, John Connors and Andrew D’Angelo, bring a personal connection to their professional venture. Connors and D’Angelo grew up as best friends, while Connors’ husband, John Connors, operates as a “silent” partner while running a separate consulting firm.
The idea for the business came to D’Angelo after embarking on a personal fitness journey and losing over 100 lbs. His passion for experimenting with protein shakes and smoothies at home soon turned into a professional business opportunity.
“I’ve always wanted to own a small business, I just didn’t know what it would be. I figured, why not bring what I love to do at home to the masses,” D’Angelo said.
After completing her business management degree from St. John Fisher University and working a corporate job for four years, Connors was also looking for a change.
“I decided this is not what I want to do with my life,” Connors said. “Then he [D’Angelo] brought the idea of Bloom and Blend to us. I was like, ‘Okay, this is, like, great timing. Let’s do it.’ And here we are.”
The trio wasted no time, holding their first official business meeting on July 4. Soon after, they signed a lease for 33 Slayton Ave, began construction in August and by September 14, Bloom and Blend official opened its doors.
Choosing Spencerport as the location was an easy decision for the three. John Connors grew up in the Ogden area and has been living in Spencerport for four years, with Alyssa Connors joining him two years ago.
“We just knew it was a good community, and we knew that we would be able to pull from Brockport, Chili and some of Greece too,” Connors said. “Spencerport was empty for this kind of thing.”
On opening day, Bloom and Blend had a line out the door and the business has only continued to grow. Marlene Case estimated she has been to Bloom and Blend at least 25 times since it opened.
“I came here first with friends, and now we actually meet here once a week. My wallet feels it,” Case said.
For Case, the staffs commitment to creating a welcoming environment keeps her coming back.
“Everything’s fresh, and the fact that you can build your own items, add whatever you want to make it custom, it’s great,” Case said. “They’re interested in what we have to say, and I always answer their polls and share them.”
The team’s emphasizes community involvement, frequently engaging with customers through social media polls.
“We did one poll on social media and had everybody submit names for one of our unnamed drinks. We picked a winner, and it ended up being called Blossom Brew,” D’Angelo said.
Blossom Brew (vanilla protein powder, almond milk, Nutella, instant coffee and collagen) is just one of the specialty protein shakes that Bloom and Blend offers. The menu also includes specialty smoothies, smoothie bowls, seasonal selections and a build your own menu. Extras such as creatine, B12, or mass gainer are available.
Bloom and Blend also collaborates with local businesses and hosts events in its space.
“We always do social media giveaways when we partner with other businesses,” Connors said. “We did Driphouse already, I’m in touch with someone from a salon right now and we’re going to be in touch with Yeah Baby, who does macaroons down the street.”
While collaborations help draw attention to the business, the owners say the main goal is to create a space where everyone feels welcome.
“We just try to be inclusive of all people,” Connors said. “We love meeting new people and getting to know them and we love our regulars for sure. We just try to make it really warm feeling in here.”
So far, the business has drawn in individuals from all ages and groups.
“It’s from middle school kids all the way up to elderly people to everywhere in between, gym-goers, business people, teachers and kids,” D’Angelo said. “There’s no real demographic; there’s something for everybody.”
Bloom and Blend also has something for furry friends. D’Angelo and Connors, both pet owners, welcome customers to bring their pets as they offer a dog menu with items such as Blueberry Bark Bites.
Looking ahead, the team plans to add warm menu items for the winter, such as protein oatmeal or mochi bubble protein waffles. They also hope to host a dog adoption event in collaboration with Operation Freedom Ride.
With its all-inclusive environment and customer driven approach, Bloom and Blend has quickly become a local favorite. Whether it’s gym-goers, families, or even pets looking for an healthy treat, everyone can enjoy this Spencerport gem and find their own healthy harmony.
