Fire investigators are searching for the cause of a fire that heavily damaged the Morgan Manning House on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
Crews battled the stubborn fire for several hours Tuesday evening before bringing it under control. The fire caused the entire second floor of the 170-year old mansion to collapse. No one was in the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
The Morgan Manning House is home to the Western Monroe Historical Society. According to their website, Sara Morgan Manning died in a fire that badly damaged the Morgan Homestead in 1964. She was 96.
The Western Monroe Historical Society restored the home in 1965. The home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
