BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Drawing curious locals in with the smell of American, Asian and Italian favorites, Slim & Sweets Eatery is one of the newest additions to Brockport’s restaurant scene. In a village where small businesses are the heart of Main Street, Slim & Sweets is already sending customers home with happy faces and full stomachs.
Brockport locals, Shawn “Slim” Maira and Zachary Sweet, opened their location on November 12, 2025 aiming to establish their presence in the community. The restaurant was dubbed “Slim and Sweets Eatery” as a collaboration of the entrepreneurs’ names.

“My initials are SLM. I’m clearly not a slim guy, but, you know, it’s the oxymoron. And then his [Zachary] last name is Sweet. we just kept it true and original to our name,” Maira said.
Although their idea began as a smash burger spot, the presence of established burger joints like 58 Main combined with Maira’s Italian background, prompted the entrepreneurs to dream bigger. Slim and Sweet’s menu quickly transformed into a more diverse set of options.
Their menu showcases many dishes from American comfort food like chicken tenders, burgers and french fries to Italian-inspired options like chicken parm subs. Patrons can also choose from a long list of customizable subs, burgers and rice plates.

“I grew up in a deli, so it was one of those things I was brought up in,” Maira said. “I have a ton of passion for Italian food, that’s my culture and stuff. I’ve always wanted to have something of my own here, so I figured let’s do it in the hometown.”
Business has been booming for the pair in the month following their grand opening. Word-of-mouth has been a crucial part of bringing in business, and there has been no shortage of support from other local businesses, college students and village residents.
“With the college kids, the word of mouth has really spread through Yik Yak and all those different social media platforms,” Maira said. “It’s really been relieving because people have been showing up and they’ve been supporting.”
The restaurant is closed on Mondays, but is open on the other weekdays from 12-9pm. The restaurant is open as late as 3:00am on Fridays and Saturdays, catering to the majority of their target audience, college students.
Village residents Ahmad Powell and Amber Burns were among the many first-time customers drawn in by the buzz.
Powell decided to stop in after Slim & Sweets became a frequent topic of conversation among many of his co-workers.
“One of the guys in my office tried it and it passed along by word-of-mouth until everybody was eating there,” Powell said.

As Slim & Sweets finds its footing, Maira believes that the work is just beginning, but the restaurant is on its way to becoming a Brockport staple.
“Opening a place of my own has always been a dream of mine, and it’s just starting to come true now.”
